Breathing for pregnancy and birth.

"Don't forget to breathe” might sound like the most obvious piece of advice you can give someone when they are going to give birth, but unless you know how to breathe, it can be very confusing.

If you take your advice from television and everything we see in the movies around women in labour, it would make you believe that you need to do a lot of panting and a lot of quick breaths, all the while your eyes look scared and crazy and everyone is panicking!

That is probably one of the worst things you can do in labour, as the faster you breathe, the more adrenalin you introduce into your system and the more painful everything is.

Slow and steady is the way to go when it comes to breathing in labour.

Our best tip is also to practice your breathing whilst pregnant. The more practice you put in, the better equipped you will be in the birth. Like many things - practice makes permanent.
